Ready yet? // 2010-02-08 11:55:53

Sigh, alrighty. Let me know when.

I thought this was really pertty. // 2010-01-31 15:16:04

Maybe you will too.

And then the time came: // 2009-12-31 19:28:01

To show something pretty :)

I hope you enjoy it, its a great collaborative effort between all of us, so far. We're looking forward to showing you the full piece in hopefully not that long!

Happy New Year!

Its almost time to show someting // 2009-12-03 14:07:01

Its been a hard couple of months to get it together, but its nearly time to have the first view of my new animation, in collaboration with several other lovely people, unveiled!

*Update:*

I'll be building a website for the piece shortly as well, so look forward to a trailer, a list of the wonderful people involved, and a little more information as the production continues into full gear sooner than my tablet-hand'd wrist wants to believe.

a couple of pics // 2009-11-02 14:25:06

This weekend was suffused by Halloween, the frolickment with costumes and the viewing of other's efforts. The creativity that emerges sometimes is so beautiful, it makes you want to hug the person.

We also visited Canzine as a team with Family Contact, and offered our wares to the public (maybe even to you). It was a great time, with lots of socializing and sharing of life endeavours. I was overwhelmed if only because everyone there that I could see had brought things that meant a lot to them ... and each person only has so much money to buy.

There were a million dead snails, we tried to save one.

A birthday Video for my friend Molly // 2009-10-14 10:57:51

I'm super proud of all of my friends because they didn't have more than 0.9 days notice for each of their parts, and every one of them is amazing.

It would seem redundant to wish her another Birthday again considering how often the words appear in the video, so I'll let it speak :)

Also, there are way too many birthdays in October!

Genevieve / Red and Gold // 2009-09-28 11:40:28

After an almost absurd amount of work, it is finally almost ready. Only in the past day or two did I put together in my head all the hours spent on drawing / shading / colouring / arranging / writing / arranging / formatting / fixing / arranging / and getting it arranged on lulu.com, and apparently it has taken a serious chunk of my recent life.

It could be a great story, or a piece of poo, but Aaron's zine that is also in it is surely lovely, and the story continues literally from issue 1, which I think is pretty cool. And #3 is already in the works, so if any of the characters grab you, you'll get to see more of them :)

I'll post links and a proper page for it just as soon as the last few mistakes are fixed up!

Re-writing importance of objects surrounding. // 2009-09-04 13:25:56

I've passed this tree many times for many years. The other day, in the midst of a 'walk around with cameras' photo session with a friend of mine, I found out the tree was actually planted in the memory of her grandfather. I've even seen the commemoration, before. I may have stubbed my toe on it, in the midst of a water-gun battle.

I think its very beautiful to discover a thing which has been unnoticed for so long, and to suddenly give it a depth and purpose, even if it adds no tangible difference to your life. Knowing what I know, now, I can be sure that I'll never walk past the tree without noticing its existence, and the descendant of the person it commemorates who I now call a friend.

What sort of beautiful things are around you? Do you see them?

Cool new things // 2009-08-17 18:11:06

Neat new news:

Family Contact got a colourful (linguistically) article in the latest Broken Pencil mag, which is super cool. Its also a great issue full of neat things, so feel free to pick it up for a low low price at your local book and magazine retailer!

Other news:

Aaron Manczyk's feature finally hits a screen somewhere, now that it is complete. Comprising a lot of work, and Family Contact's first official feature! The first screening (/// world premiere \\\) is happening at:

Cinecyle
//
Down the lane behind 129 Spadina Ave, just south of Richmond. (Google map)
On Saturday, August 22nd!

And finally, I'm working heavily on issue #2 of Genevieve, which will be done before long. If you're reading my website, you probably know it because I probably know you personally if you are here at all, so ask me about it when we hang next, if you like <3

Alriiighty, that concludes this update.

Almost wrapped // 2009-07-29 03:42:07

My trip to Los Angeles has been wonderful.
Beach days, meeting my heroes, and visiting cool sets.

Los Ange II // 2009-07-13 18:56:14

In my time away from Toronto, I'm trying to keep up with the creativity and with the things that I'm not able to work on due to having such a packed schedule. The night times are the prettiest here, when the broiling heat of the day fades to darkness, and the air cools off, permitting the safe wearing of such enjoyable articles of clothing as hoodies and pants (something I see the locals wearing during the day sometimes, and that I am not sure how they withstand without melting and hollowing out like candles).

Aside from catching up with the latest Actionscript stuff, I'm going to also try and make some music while I'm here and apparently somewhat in the mood.

That, aside from seeing movies, relaxing, and trying to extend my constantly shortening life by actually getting sleep and feeling rested. Its a small thing, but as everyone keeps telling me, probably important.

This View is Also True // 2009-07-10 16:45:43

I like it, because this is how it really is, if you just look at it the other way around. Another safe trip through the air, visiting Cali!

I've been so busy, I don't even know what to do without it ...

Placements // 2009-06-24 15:15:32

With the online world aflutter, its kind of strange using Twitter to talk about nonsensical internet topics while a revolution, gunfire, and news for terrified families are streaming along the same service. I don't know the emotion it creates, I cannot quite place it.

You guys should check out my friend Johnny Le's site:

His short "Lick", recently got into the Palm Springs International Shorts Fest, and sometime you might see it online or something, its lovely. Or check it out if you're in the area!

I'm also working on the next Genevieve comic. Here's a small frame!

Raein by Ólafur -- Fanvid complete // 2009-06-05 15:04:27

I put this up a while back in reference to my Flickr group post, but this video is the full song. I thought it deserved finishing because of the beauty of the song, and how the last version sort of felt like a huge tease. This may not be any less of a tease, but at least you get a little more story out of it, and some visuals on how popcorn in space might look.

Ólafur also tweeted about it, which was magic.

A totally Aftereffects endeavour, I think something like this is pushing the software preeettty much to the limit in terms of being a three-dee-ish program. I still love the look of 2dimensional elements in a three dee space, though, and I feel like a jump to actual modeling might be forever beyond me.

I just love things when they're drawn, or at least, modeled so well they might as well be drawn. Always happy to hear your opinions!

<3 things // 2009-06-01 12:35:53

Yesterday was just too beautiful a day to not try and take some photos. Despite the fact that my camera is more or less incapable of taking a really well-exposed, beautiful photograph. But we do our best, and its small and portable and fits in my jacket pocket.

Jessica!

And my dearest form of transportation, a gift from my family too.

I'm going to let my computer render out a new version of the Olafur Raein piece that I half-finished earlier, and post a completed copy on Vimeo. I think it deserved it.

Art in a collection // 2009-05-21 02:19:57

Things from the past that I documented with lines.

The light of cell phones.

The last is a stroll on a closed section of highway, in the quiet and warmth of night. It was beautiful and strange, and its a memory I'm not going to forget, apparently, no matter how far it falls behind.

Unbelievable. // 2009-05-15 00:02:43

I can't believe how beautiful this is. He deserves every praising comment on that damn page, man.

The Gunslingers, "About Family" // 2009-05-10 13:54:13

Into the dark... // 2009-05-04 13:49:26

Its a prospect, tiring, that the world is a world of circles, and the tracks we ride take us out of one cave and into another, and out once again.

Lately, the world has consisted of animating, of life and friends, and so many dreams to accomplish for the future. Not things to buy, though, but creations to make, and stories to tell. I don't have any clue if my stories are even worth telling, but I imagine they might be.

The weather is getting warmer, and with it is the sun. The inside of my head is sometimes impervious to it, like the confusing insulation of some houses, which seem only able to capture the cold and and keeping it all winter, and then releasing the warmth when the summer hits.

Latest engagements:

- The Gunslingers, "About Family": 75% complete. Should be out for May 9th.
- Genevieve Sentences / Genevieve Red & Gold: 20% complete.

Thanks for reading, as ever. <3

Gunslingers Continues // 2009-04-22 02:02:38

Have been working on The Gunslingers for most of the evening. My limbs and digits actually hurt from the constant computering, and in the exhausted way not the carpal-tunnel-way (yet).

This is a picture Zak took, I really like it.

Really enjoying "Found Song" // 2009-04-17 16:54:30

I worked on a short animation for Olafur Arnalds' "Found Songs" art group, on Flickr. Flickr has a 90 second limit, so it must know best.

It was a very short turnover for it, and I really liked that. I mentioned in my last post, but my favourite pieces are always finished (or at least near finished) while the creative drive is at max. Its wonderful, and I can only hope I did justice to the beauty of the song.

Lots of cool upcoming news and developments, some still a long way away from being mentioned, some not. How are you? I hope you're doing well.

**EDIT ** April 20th **

Don't forget to check out my 1st graphic novel / comic

The book it becomes when printed surprised me considerably with its beauty (I was expecing "oh, neat." and got "wow, cool!", so if you'd like a copy, now is the time to join in the story and get to know the characters!

My Awesome Movie -- Trailer // 2009-04-16 14:21:08

The boys and I are happy to present "My Awesome Movie" trailer to you.
Viewer discretion is just slightly advised, like, if you were curious about it.

You can see more from us and of Zak and Aaron at Family Contact, of course.

//

I finished a 1-day blitz animation for Olafur's "Found Songs", it always feels lovely to make something really quick, while the drive is still strong and terribly insistent.

Windswept on wheels // 2009-04-12 20:41:32

Its just not warm enough to comfortably ride a bike yet. Today I feel windswept inside my skull, I keep saying the wrongs things to people, and don't know how to behave. Its a strange one. My head is also trapped in Flash coding, wrapped up and it won't let go.

Things I am excited for include:

- Olafur Arnald's "Found Songs".
- The hope of future T:SCC. Too cool.
- Warmth and exercise.
- Terminator 4, though I wish it it could nerdily connect with the show and be all canon and stuff. The nerd in me desires this.

Where do you get your creativity from? I'm curious and would love to hear.

Cancel My Faves -- Play Some Guitar // 2009-04-10 03:10:03

Tomorrow, I'll be playing a small set with my best bearded friend in the world at O'Grady's pub, at College and McCaul, at a friend's fund-raising night. If you live in the Toronto area, please feel free to drop by!

I've also taken this chance to put up the music section in my 'main menu' up top. Its being a bit finicky with repeat loads, so if a song makes a weird 'brrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbr' sound, then just click it again, and it should work eventually. Except "Sister and Brother", that MP3 file just isn't working ...

I'm saddened by the news (or lack of opposite news to indicate otherwise that) Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles might not continue into a next season, and that effectively removes one of my favourite television experiences these days. Add to that the stress that Dollhouse might not get a chance to shine, and I'm left with the lovely Castle ... but that is not science fiction, and I need my fix of robots.

Some early Jessica artwork, just because I felt this needed an image. Maybe I'll change it to something more related to the topics, later.

The 1st Entry // 2009-04-08 01:51:38

In endeavouring to make my .ca website into a more useful affair, this is the first part of my redesign! I'm working on way to many things, all the time, and if you happen to enjoy my stuff, then this site can be a chance to see the newest, hear what is stressing, gladdening, or surgically removing my sleep. And also, maybe, what books I am reading.

I love reading.

There's something addictive and strange about creating websites, and especially sites that start to test your own limits. I'm not the sort to grab templates or anything like that, so though it pretty much results in re-inventing the wheel, the associated 'pleased-with-myself-ness' is probably excessive. But still!

I plan to make this site far more useful, and browse-able for you my dear visitor. I want to show little projects and big projects, and mostly what has been done in the past. I'm also in the throes of working on GENEVIEVE, my long-term story-telling goal. The first issue of my print part of it is aaalmosst releasable, and I hope it is a gentle and engaging story. Because it probably won't stay that way for too, too long!

Oh, and please forgive the lack of any link above this entry working. I'm getting those pages ready post-haste.
